David Wampach associate artist 2016 – 2018

David Wampach has a strongly personal approach steeped in theatrical and artistic influences, which he brings to the Achles Association. He co-choreographed the duo D ES R A (2003) with Pierre Mourles, before creating the solo CIRCONSCRIT (2004), and then BASCULE (2005), a hypnotic and radical trio set to metronomic music. Next came QUATORZE (2007), and AUTO (2008), a duo with pianist Aurélien Richard, followed by BATTERIE (2008), a performance with a drummer, and BATTEMENT (2009), a variation on the “grand battement.” He created two pieces in 2011: CASSETTE, a contemporary version of the classical Nutcracker ballet, and SACRE, a re-reading of The Rite of Spring. That same year, he was the laureate of  the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. In 2012 and 2013, he continued his work around rituals and trance, directing his first short film, RITE, an extension of the piece SACRE, and creating the solo TOUR, in which he paints the portrait of a primitive being invaded by the rhythmic flow of his breathing, composing a visual and sound portrait. In 2014, he created the duo VEINE. His new piece, URGE, premiered at the festival Montpellier Danse 2015. In parallel, David Wampach is regularly invited as a guest professor to dance education programs, like ex.e.r.ce au CCN de Montpellier, the EMFOCO in Concepcion in Chili, or danceWEB, part of the festival ImPulsTanz.
