Touka Danses / CDCN Guyane

TOUKA DANSES Center for Choreographic Development Guiana, was named a French “Center for Choreographic Development” in September 2015 by French Culture and Communication Minister Fleur Pellerin after having been shortlisted three years.
TOUKA DANSES CDC Guiana thus became the eleventh CDC in the national network, and the first in an overseas department.
The missions of TOUKA DANSES CDC Guiana are:

  • Promoting dance education for Guianese youth (professional and amateur)
  • Promoting and bringing together Guiana’s diverse dance traditions
  • Professional training for Guianese dancers
  • Promoting all forms of choreographic creation
  • Programs supporting international choreographs in the creation of new works
  • Bringing contemporary dance to audiences through production and distribution, whether regional, national or international
  • Studio residencies for dancers
  • Creating residencies across the region
  • Reinforcing choreographic training with certified national and international professionals
  • Holding Q&As with choreographers
  • Holding masterclasses and professional courses for grade school students, dance schools and the general public
  • Putting on the Rencontres de Danses Métisses contemporary dance festival
  • Choreographic reading workshops
